Connecticut Water Recognized for Community Service and Excellence in Safety
CLINTON, Conn. — December 12, 2023 — Connecticut Water was recognized with two prestigious awards by the Connecticut Construction Industries Association (CCIA) this month. The company received the CCIA’s Community Service Award for its bird nesting box project, which enhances wildlife habitat, and a Safety Recognition Award for excellence in construction health and safety.
“We are extremely proud to be recognized by CCIA for commitment to community service and safety,” said Connecticut Water President Craig J. Patla. Patla added, “Care for the environment and care for each other is in our DNA. Our employees are passionate about protecting the environment and serving their customers, and it is incumbent on us to keep them safe. We do that by building on our culture of safety so that all employees return to their loved ones at the end of every workday.”
Community Service Award
The bird box project was a partnership between Connecticut Water, the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) and Connecticut Water employee volunteers. Connecticut Water employees using lumber donated by DEEP and scrap signposts donated by the Department of Transportation constructed 40 wood duck and bluebird nesting boxes. The boxes are located in company watersheds and other land that provide a good habitat for these beneficial birds. Company volunteers also maintain and clean the bird boxes.
Safety Award
This is the 20th consecutive year that CCIA has recognized Connecticut Water with a Safety Recognition Award. CCIA recognizes companies that have demonstrated solid construction safety and health programs following an evaluation across 17 safety categories, including management involvement, employee training, safety hazard analysis, noncompliance and correction of violations.
