$1.5 million project to replace 60+ year old pipe starts week of January 27
CLINTON, Conn., Jan. 27, 2025 — During the week of Jan. 27 Connecticut Water will begin a $1.5 million project to install new water main in South Windsor in the Woodland Park area. The project will increase available water flow to the area and improve reliability and fire protection for customers.
About 5,400 feet of water main will be installed as part of the project. The new main replaces existing pipe that is more than 60 years old. Three fire hydrants will also be replaced as part of the project.
Work hours will be 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with an expected completion in the spring of 2025. Streets impacted by the project include Highland Drive, Peach Drive, Roy Road, Dogwood Lane from Highland to Oak, and Oak Street from Highland Drive to Laurel Street in South Windsor. Customers in the construction area have been notified of the project and will receive advance notice of any scheduled water service interruption because of the water main installation project.
The project is funded through the Water Infrastructure and Conservation Adjustment (WICA) on customer bills. WICA funds enable the company to accelerate the replacement of aging water system infrastructure and sustain valuable water resources.
Proactively replacing aging lines also saves money over having to replace lines during an emergency, meaning lower costs for customers over the long-term. Importantly, these projects ensure current and future generations of customers will continue to experience high-quality, reliable water service and fire protection.
Connecticut Water’s goal is to replace about one percent of its more than 1,850 miles of water main every year through the WICA program. The company plans to invest over $75 million in water treatment, water storage and pipeline projects throughout the state in 2025.
